Hope is a Nigerian

A poem by Aanu Aremo.

Lyrics

Hope came in combat boots and khaki
camouflaged in green,
that many thought it meant peace and prosperity.
What posterity didn't know was that-
Nigeria would become a bath of bloody civilians,
drenched in a pool of their blood,
as hands that once swore to protect
became a noose around their neck,
snuffing out their breath,
as if to say change is only felt 6 feet beneath the earth.
As if to claim death is indeed a pathway to life
When people say,
living in Nigeria, is living in hell
but these flames do not purify,
do not satisfy the birth of a new Nigeria.
So Hope was assassinated.
Hope died, trailed the route of civilian rule and returned as a democrat
played rat race with our cash
while the Boko aimed at our lives
Hope was lost within the forest of the Sambisa,
was raped of her virtue again and again and again
till she died.
For so long it seemed hope was gone
But Hope recarnated as a twin
Hope came as you and I
proudly, Nigerian.

Hope is you and I. Good one 😘
