I’m the poem, not the poet.

Lyrics

I am a thousand page in books
hung on your shelves
dying to be read aloud,
dying to crack a joke,
dying to make people laugh,
dying to come alive.

Sometimes,
I stay bed ridden for months
I hardly recognize myself,
I lose weight by bleeding words out,
my heart bounces back from cardiac arrest
with every dripping words injected.
prison, I know it too well
not the poet after all, I’m the poem.

I don’t know what it means to hold a pen,
I don’t know how to dance to rhythm,
I don’t know how to beat the drum,
I don’t know what it means to be a poet
but I know how to be a poem I think
but I don’t know how to think,

I don’t know how to talk,
I don’t know how to smile,
I don’t know how to shake hands
yet I create memories,
make people wonder
and snap their fingers
when I am uttered.
not the poet after all, I’m the poem.

I am a chameleon.
green snake in green grass.
I am what the poet calls me;
sometimes nature,
sometimes Love,
sometimes Home,
I could go on and on with my endless names,
not the poet after all, I’m the poem.

I wish I could live forever;
free,
independent,
out of this world.
I wish I could make dreams come true.
I wish the spirits could hear my voice.
I wish I could play a role in a drama
but gravity doesn’t hold up water.
not the poet after all, I’m the poem.
