The Debate stages a story of how we are all judges of our talents in our own rights and how we all agree that talent alone is not enough to make a good art.

Good day accurate debators,
Panel of timekeepers
And my co-judges
You all know we need not swallow grudges
To belch this truth on the faces of anybody.

Even when everyone else supposedly opposes it,
Some truths move in motion, so we propose it.
Minds belch when they get good stuff.
Noses sneeze when they inhale snuff.
Talent is not enough

Talent alone, like a seed, lies dormant.
And an uncultivated land is a wild doormat.
Green leaves haven't suffered defeat,
As much as uncultivated lands suffer under the feet.

Learning and character are fertilizers.
Without which talent is stunted.
Rise and longevity are the border between trailblazers,
And just anyone who fronted.
Thunderbolts can't address human problems with their voices,
which frightens.
Even the skies can't study human faces with lightning.
Talent is just a spark; still needs a passion to burn.
Talent can't illuminate the dark,
Because a mind afire must yearn to learn.
Talent is not enough

This is why we dress each poem until it becomes a totem.
This is why the year looks thrice before it leaps.
This is why we keep our eyes there and ask for sanctified lips.
This is why we project projects until they solve problems;
Solve problems of people around us;
People around us are people, not the problems.

I hope with these points, I've convincingly infused
& not confused you:
That you need more than fingers for point of view.
Literacy lacking advocacy gathers heirs in cuffs.
Why won't Papa Afamefuna call it 'dread'?
Talent alone is like puff-puff; it is
better than nothing,
But it is still not enough to make bread.
Minds belch when they get good stuff.
Noses sneeze when they inhale snuff.
Talent is not enough; talent is not enough!
