Winning does not always silence the hunger within us. This poem reflects on ambition, achievement, and the emptiness that can remain even after reaching a long-awaited goal. It asks what happens when success arrives but the soul is still searching for something more.
I have discovered
that a small victory
can make a very loud sound
inside me.
Not because
I need applause.
Because it reminds me
that I can.
One thing works.
One door opens.
One idea becomes real.
And before the excitement
has fully settled,
another question arrives:
What next?
It is not greed.
It is hunger.
The kind that whispers
there is still more
inside you.
I like the feeling
of surprising myself.
Of standing beside
something I once thought
might never happen
and saying,
Look.
You did it!!!
Every little achievement
gives me evidence
against the voice
that tells me to stay
where I am comfortable.
I celebrate.
Then I build again.
I reach.
Then I look further.
There is a particular joy
in becoming someone
I did not know
I could be.
Growth has obviously one of my
favorite forms of happiness.
Not because I believe
I am never enough.
Because I know
being enough today
does not mean
I have to stop becoming
tomorrow.
Give me one small victory
and watch what happens.
I celebrate.
Then I start another project.
It feels like
finding a room
inside yourself
you did not know existed.
I have discovered
that ambition is not always
a loud thing.
Mine often looks like
quiet satisfaction
followed by another notebook.
I’m certain and comforted that is
my particular kind of hunger.
I do not want
a life filled only
with things I already know
I can accomplish.
I want evidence
from the future
that I was capable
of more than
I had imagined.
