Poetry: my burden and my gift.
MY BURDEN, MY GIFT
Another day don break.
This, na another chance to make
hand touch bodi pen
to create at least one poem.
Like obioma tailor on the streets of Lagos, Nigeria.
This poet, carries poetry as her machine on her shoulder.
Tacking and stitching words that strike cords.
Hitting ears and eyes that see, saw beyond lines of creativity.
With sounds and strings; musical chords
playing present day reality.
Mind sketched patterns of rhymes and rhythms through global research.
See, this poet
thread themes with shuttles of her emotions and environment.
Which to many
is a big burden.
But you,
tell me:
of what value is
'gain' without a transposition of 'g' to 'p' - 'pain?'
See, poetry is my gift given with guts.
So, with grace I bear this burden with no feel of hurts.
Sighing and humming
as punches pour from beneath my breath.
On stage,
sometimes screen where I put to birth
fabricated woven words of wisdom with great aesthetics.
Having stayed up many nights:
consistently practising postures,
gestures,
expressions of emotions
like Peter,
casting nets
into the sea of words
without catching a sleep.
You can call it,
my burden.
Regardless,
I bear it like the cross:
a strong bridge of vertical and horizontal connection of humanity
to divinity.
Coming into union with the word and his sound.
See, poetry is profoundly my priceless gift.
And,
though it could be sometimes draining
But,
it never drowns the soul that writes,
speaks
or hears it.
