Two sides of same thought

A single thought can hold two opposing truths. This poem explores the contradictions within the mind, the tension between reason and emotion, and the complexity of seeing life from different perspectives while trying to understand oneself.

Lyrics

My mind does not
walk in straight lines.
Give it a simple question
and it will politely
build a committee.

What if this works?
Good.
What if it fails?
Also good.

What if it works
but creates another problem?
Excellent.
What if the problem
has a solution?

I can take one situation
and turn it around
until it has seen
every side of itself

Positive.
Negative.
Possible.
Impossible.
Likely.
Unlikely.

The version nobody considered
because everybody else
had already gone home.

It can be exhausting
being me.
It can also be useful.

When I believe something,
I believe it with structure.
I have reasons.
I have evidence.

I have thought about
the reasons behind
the reasons.

My friends know.
They have watched
a five-minute disagreement
apply for permanent residency.

They have said,
There is no point.
You think you are right.
And I probably did.

The problem is not
that I cannot change my mind.
Show me the flaw.
Show me the gap.
Give me something
stronger than volume.

Then I will listen.

That is why I have learned
the value of silence.
Not every argument
needs my thesis.

Not every misunderstanding
requires a twenty-minute
PowerPoint presentation
delivered without slides.

There are moments
when being right
is less important
than keeping peace.

My mind may continue
writing footnotes.
I do not always
have to read them aloud.

A mind that sees
many sides
must also learn
when to close the door
and rest.

That, too,
is growth.
