Submission of an entry for War Of Words Season 9 begins this Tuesday, September 6, 2022.

First Prize: N500,000

Second Prize: N300,000

Third Prize: N200,000

Cash prizes will also be given to the top 3 poets at each of the four quarterfinal rounds (i.e. 50k, 30k, and 20k respectively).  

The theme for WOW 9 entry poem is - "Who Poetry Epp?"

Find below the guidelines for entry into the competition:

• You must be registered on poetreel.com and your profile must be updated (for ease of communication).

• Everyone is eligible to participate in this competition.

• Each person/poet can submit only one entry poem.

• The poem must not be more than three minutes.

• The poem must be the poet’s original piece. No plagiarism is allowed. Plagiarism is grounds for immediate dismissal from the competition.

• The poet must not use props, costumes, pre-recorded/taped music, or musical instruments while performing.  It’s just you, your poem, and the mic/ camera.

• The poem must NOT include sexist, racist, homophobic, or transphobic comments. Use your common sense and leave your hate out of the competition. Thus, no vulgar, obscene, sexually explicit words or words of ethnic hatred are allowed. However, anger, upset, and frustration are legit emotions to express in your poem, just be creative in how you go about doing it.

• In addition to number 7 above, if your poem has a political inclination, please perform/ say it as a poet, and not as a critic, tout, or a newspaper stand commentator.

• The entry submission for WOW 9 is to be uploaded two-fold, as follows:

• You are to upload the audio version of your poem to poetreel.com under the genre/category - "WOW 9 Entry Poems."

• You are to upload the video version to Instagram with the hashtags #poetreel #Warofwords9 #WOW9 and tag @wordup411 and @poetreel

All communication to contestants/ finalists as regards War Of Words Season 9 will be done on poetreel.com. 

Our in-house judges will pick the 48 finalists for the main slam poetry competition. 

The timeline for War Of Words 9 is as follows:

• Submission of entries - Tuesday, September 6 to Monday, October 17, 2022.

• Announcement of the 48 finalists will be done on Tuesday, October 18, 2022.

• First Quarterfinal holds on Sunday, November 6, 2022.

• Second Quarterfinal holds on Sunday, November 13, 2022. 

• Third Quarterfinal holds on Sunday, November 20, 2022. 

• Fourth Quarterfinal holds on Sunday, November 27, 2022. 

• Semi-final holds on Sunday, December 4, 2022. 

• Grand-final holds on Sunday, December 18, 2022.
